Trail notes
How to use the trail notes panel to keep planning notes alongside your trip itinerary.
Trail notes are freeform planning notes attached to a trip — things like beta from previous hikers, permit details, shuttle logistics, or anything that does not fit neatly into a waypoint. They live in a collapsible side panel inside the Trip Planner and are private to the trip (not visible on the public shared trip page).
Adding a note
Click the Add trail note button to open the note dialog. Each note has three fields:
| Field | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Yes | e.g. "Permit requirements", "Water cache at mile 54" |
| Content | No | Free text, any length |
| URL | No | Link to a source, booking page, or relevant page |
Click Add note or press Cmd/Ctrl + Enter to save.
Editing and deleting
Click a note to select it. The action bar shows Edit and Delete buttons.
- Edit reopens the dialog pre-filled with the existing content
- Delete removes the note immediately — there is no confirmation dialog and no undo
Reordering notes
With a note selected, use the up / down arrow buttons to change its position in the list.
Searching notes
A search field at the top of the panel filters notes in real time by title and content. To clear the search, delete the search text.
Expanding notes
Notes with content or a URL are expandable — click a note to expand it and see the full text and link. The expanded or collapsed state of each note is saved and persists across page reloads.
Guest mode
Trail notes are fully available in guest mode. Notes are stored locally in the browser and migrate to your account automatically when you sign up.
Collaboration
Trail notes are available to collaborators with the edit link. Each collaborator can add, edit, and delete notes. Note that collaborators currently see only their own notes — notes added by other editors are not yet visible across sessions.
