Creating an account
Sign up with email or Google — and what to do first depending on which you choose.
Email sign-up
Enter your email address, choose a password, and pick a username during registration. Your username is checked for availability in real time as you type.
Google sign-up
Click Continue with Google to sign in with your existing Google account. No password required. Account creation takes a few seconds.
If you sign up with Google, you will not be prompted to choose a username during registration. Your username defaults to a placeholder — go to Settings → Account tab to set it before sharing any trips or gear lists.
First thing to do after signing up
- Email users: You are ready to go. Your username is already set.
- Google users: Open Settings → Account and set your username. This is the name that appears on your shared trips and gear lists — set it before you share anything.
Trailkeep sets weight, distance, and currency automatically from your region when you sign up. If it cannot detect your region, a short banner on the dashboard lets you pick Metric, US, or UK defaults. You can change units anytime on each gear list or trip in the planner — there is no separate units page in account settings.
