Gear Vault

How the Gear Vault works as a reusable library of your equipment.

The Gear Vault is a persistent library of gear items you own. Once an item is in the vault, you can copy it into any gear list without re-entering the details — name, weight, notes, URL, price, quantity, star colour, and worn/consumable flags all carry over automatically. The only property that does not carry over is the packed (checklist) status, which is specific to each list.

Offline: Gear Vault is online-only. The vault icon in the Pack list header is disabled without signal — you cannot open the panel to browse or clone items until you reconnect. Pack lists themselves remain view-only offline. See Offline and mobile.

Moving items into the vault

Items are moved to the vault from inside a gear list. Find the item you want to save, open its context menu, and select Move to vault. The item is removed from the list and added to the vault.

You cannot add items directly to the vault from the vault panel — items must start life in a gear list first and then be archived to the vault from there. The one exception is the + icon on shared gear list pages, which copies a single item straight to your vault. See Sharing a list.

Using vault items in a list

Open the Gear Vault from the gear icon in the Pack list header (next to Add and the list picker). Search or browse for the item you want, select it, then click Clone — a dialog asks which category in your current list to add it to.

The vault item is cloned into the list, not moved. The original remains in the vault unchanged, ready to be used on future trips.

When a list item is linked to a vault template (via Clone from vault or Move to vault from a list), product links, prices, and affiliate flags can inherit from the vault:

  • Update the link or price on the vault item → linked list rows that have not overridden that field pick up the change automatically.
  • Edit the link on a specific list item → that override sticks for that list only (trip context stays independent).

Weight, notes, quantity, worn/consumable flags, and checklist state always stay per list — they do not sync from the vault.

Items are independent for trip context

Once an item is in a list, changes to weight, notes, quantity, and worn/consumable flags on the list row do not update the vault version, and vice versa. That preserves what you actually packed on a given trip even if you later change the vault template.

Searching the vault

The vault panel has a search field that filters items by name in real time. Useful when the vault grows to hundreds of items.

An account is required to save items to the Gear Vault.
